2008 marks Dennis Lyon’s 38th year in professional practice and his 17th year as president of Dennis J. Lyon, Architects. After opening his office in 1991, he sought out to associate with individuals who not only shared his desire to provide Quality, Full Service Architecture but also possessed exemplary design and technical skills based on practical field experience. It was also his conviction that as a tool to achieve an accurate application of those skills and quality performance, construction documents must be 100% AutoCAD generated.
His professional career reflects great diversity and extensive experience in a variety of project types, which accounts for his reputation as a practical “hands-on”, “nuts-and-bolts” architect. He is committed to personal professional service and has always maintained direct involvement in every phase of his projects.
Dennis brings to any project regardless of size or complexity, excellent organizational skills and a “no-nonsense” approach to architecture. His career has provided first hand experience in civil engineering, interior design, architectural programming, architectural design, construction documentation, specifications, field testing, observation, and construction management.
He is detail oriented, methodical in his approach to projects, and sensitive to budget limitations and project timelines. He has demonstrated creative use of materials and imaginative design solutions while adhering to the basic axiom that “form follows function”.
As of the beginning of this last year, the firm has provided professional services for over 600 projects in the Central States Region and the staff has grown to several talented and dedicated individuals each bringing a unique area of excellence to the team.
After establishing a solid architectural practice, growth and expansion through diversification seemed to be the next logical step. Since nearly half of the professional architectural practice over the years had been in the design build environment, the experience and the network was in place to move into the development and construction market.
In 1996 Chad Lyon left his construction management position with J.E. Dunn in Kansas and moved back to Lincoln. He, his mother, and his father, formed Lyon Enterprises, LLC and established as its first division Lyon Construction. Jointly they marketed a “seamless delivery system”. Their first large project was the Lincoln Federal Branch Bank at 24th and Superior. Since then, the construction division has completed numerous commercial structures, additions, and renovations the most recent of which is St. David’s Episcopal Church, the office renovation for Dr. Allen N. Korte on Normal Boulevard and new offices for OrthoCare on South 70th Street.
Although the services of an architectural office are often diverse, it is not practical to be all things to all people. Accordingly, seeing the need to offer affordable contract drafting services to a variety of clients, the Plan Man was organized in 1998. After 10 years, the Plan Man continues to support a list of clients who regularly utilize this service and continue to offer to prospective home owners drafting of their house plans.
